Feed the Minds is an ecumenical Christian organisation. We work with partners of different denominations and faiths to promote education in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.
Our work falls into two major categories: education for the poor and marginalised, and education that equips the global Church. Through education, we want to improve the spiritual and material well-being of people in the poorest parts of the world, and help empower ordinary people everywhere to enjoy life in all its fullness.
There are an estimated 800 million people around the world who cannot read or write. Two-thirds of these are women. Many of our partners are actively working to change this situation, providing basic literacy and numeracy to thousands of impoverished communities in support of the global call for education through the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
Leaders of the worldwide Church are called upon to serve communities facing enormous challenges related to extreme poverty, conflict and violence, environmental degradation and diseases such as HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. The Church is often an important role player in addressing local social and economic problems. For this reason, Feed the Minds supports education for Church leaders through the Books for Life programme, helping to equip the worldwide Church to serve.
Within each of these areas of work, we support partners who are developing relevant and innovative solutions to the problems their communities experience. We especially support initiatives to develop local knowledge and creativity, believing that home-grown solutions are often the most effective in addressing local problems. We support partners striving to build peace in conflict-ridden areas, particularly those working to create understanding between different faiths.
